**BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. ** – A Bedford County Public Schools teacher, John Rose IV, was arrested on Friday on charges of sexual crimes involving a former student. Rose, who taught seventh-grade history at Staunton River Middle School, is currently on administrative leave following the allegations.

According to warrants dated August 6, the alleged sexual relationship began while Rose was teaching in Rockingham County and continued after his transfer to Bedford County. The victim reported multiple sexual encounters in both counties, including a stay at Rose's home during the Christmas break last year.

Bedford County Commonwealth's Attorney Wes Nance stated that Rose is facing four felony charges related to his supervisory role over the victim. Each charge is classified as a class six felony, potentially carrying a penalty of up to five years in prison. Nance also mentioned that another jurisdiction is investigating the nature of the relationship, with additional charges possible.

As details about the case unfold, Rockingham County Public Schools and the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office have refrained from commenting, citing the ongoing investigation.

Rose is currently being held without bond at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for November 18.
