### Good Samaritan Intervenes in Attempted Carjacking in Falls Mills, VA
FALLS MILLS, Va. — A courageous Good Samaritan intervened in a terrifying carjacking incident on Friday, shooting a wanted man who was assaulting a woman and threatening her child.
The incident took place at Lee’s Kar-Go, where the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Cody Dailey, allegedly attempted to carjack a truck, physically assaulted the female driver, and made alarming threats towards her child.
According to Major Harold Heatley of the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, several citizens responded to the victim's screams. One armed bystander, equipped with a 9mm handgun, confronted Dailey, issuing commands to stop. However, Dailey lunged at the Good Samaritan, pushing him to the ground. In response, the citizen shot Dailey in the chest as he continued to advance.
Law enforcement, already in the area attending to another incident, arrived shortly after the gunshot was fired at approximately 1:15 p.m. Dailey was airlifted to a hospital in Roanoke, where he is reported to be in stable condition.
Dailey was already wanted on two outstanding warrants from the Tazewell County Circuit Court. Authorities in Roanoke have been notified of his current situation, and detectives are pursuing additional charges, including abduction, carjacking, and assault.
Sheriff Brian Hieatt expressed gratitude toward the Good Samaritans who stepped in during the crisis, stating, “Thank goodness for the good Samaritans that came to the victims’ aid during her time of need. We are grateful for their desire to intercede on her behalf; had they not acted, this could have been a very different outcome.”
