A series of deadly bomb blasts rocked the city of Mumbai (Bombay), India on March 12, 1993

Over a dozen coordinated bombs exploded at the stock exchange, hotels, markets, and other landmarks within about two hours, killing 250+ people and injuring hundreds. The attacks, masterminded by criminal figures in retaliation for earlier religious riots, represented one of the first large-scale urban terror bombings. The “Bombay bombings” shocked India, led to crackdowns on underworld networks, and presaged the rise of organized terrorism in South Asia.
