Danville is making one of its most-used public data tools easier to navigate for homeowners, investors, real estate professionals and anyone trying to understand a property before making a decision. The city's Information Technology Department announced on February 5 that it launched an updated Parcel Viewer built on Esri's MapInsights platform.

The refresh matters because parcel tools are no longer niche government products. They are the front door for people checking ownership, sale history, zoning, land use and adjoining parcels. Danville said the new version brings map tools into a single toolbar, improves the parcel information pop-up, and adds stronger search options for parcel ID, owner name, address, zoning, sale date, sale price and land-use codes.

That makes the system more useful in everyday situations that drive local coverage: redevelopment questions, corridor investment, code and zoning debates, neighborhood change and property-tax awareness. A clearer parcel viewer also reduces friction for people who do not work in planning or GIS every day but still need to read city data with confidence.

City staff said more features, including expanded aerial imagery access, are still in development. For Danville, the broader signal is that civic tech now shapes how residents experience transparency. Better digital tools do not only save staff time; they change how quickly the public can verify what is happening on the ground.
