The cargo plane that crashed at a Florida airport over the weekend, killing at least five people, is owned by a company based out of Piedmont Triad International Airport.
The aircraft overran the runway around 2 p.m. Sunday after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, according to the Associated Press. Five people were killed, three were critically injured and two others were hospitalized with less severe injuries, according to the local sheriff's office. The plane was owned by 21Air, headquartered at PTI in Greensboro. In a statement, the company said it is devastated by the accident, offered deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, and said its immediate priorities are supporting those affected, assisting authorities and ensuring accurate information is communicated.
21Air said it is cooperating fully with the National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Aviation Administration and local authorities as the circumstances of the accident are investigated.
