Guilford homeowner assistance grant opens July 15 for seniors

Guilford County homeowners who are watching tax bills and household costs have a new grant window to put on the summer calendar.

The county says its one-time Homeowner Assistance Grant opens July 15, 2026, for homeowners age 65 and older. Applications for all other eligible homeowners open August 16, 2026. The final deadline for all applications is 5 p.m. October 30, 2026.

To qualify, applicants must have a total household income at or below 80% of area median income, own and occupy the home as a primary residence, have owned the home for at least five years, have no property-tax liens or pending foreclosures, and have a 2025 property-tax value of $250,000 or less. Guilford County lists the income range from $53,200 for a one-person household to $100,350 for an eight-person household.

  • What to know: Seniors get the first application window on July 15; all eligible homeowners can apply starting August 16.
  • Where to get help: Guilford County DSS locations in Greensboro and High Point will accept applications.
  • Why it matters: The grant is designed to help households with housing-cost pressure, especially long-time owners on limited incomes.

Homeowners should review the county eligibility list before applying, gather income and property documents early, and use the official Guilford County DSS process rather than relying on third-party offers.
