— A 73-year-old registered sex offender is facing multiple charges following a month-long investigation by Virginia State Police and the Charles City County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say Ronald Jay Fleet of Charles City County was arrested October 8, 2026, following an investigation into alleged violations of Virginia law.
According to investigators, members of the Virginia State Police Sex Offender Registry Unit worked alongside the sheriff’s office during the investigation. A search warrant was executed, and evidence was obtained.
Fleet was charged with four counts of possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and two counts of failure to register as a sex offender.
Authorities also reported that Fleet has a prior federal conviction stemming from a case filed December 3, 2010, in the United States District Court.
Charles City County Sheriff Jayson Crawley praised the Virginia State Police Sex Offender Registry Unit and his investigator for their work on the case.
Crawley said the agencies would continue working with state, local and federal partners to help protect the community.
Fleet is being held at Riverside Regional Jail without bond.
The charges are allegations, and Fleet is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
