A former Aberdeen police lieutenant has been arrested on sexual assault charges, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said.
Leigh Ann Brooks was arrested by the SBI after the Aberdeen police chief requested an investigation following an allegation of sexual assault received by his department. A thorough investigation was conducted and findings were presented to the Hoke County District Attorney's Office, after which Brooks was charged with five counts of felony indecent liberties with a child and four counts of felony statutory rape or sex offense of a child. She was taken into custody by SBI agents and transported to the Hoke County Detention Center, where she is being held with no bond.
Brooks is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. The investigation is open, and more information is expected as it continues.
