A former police officer in a North Carolina beach town has been arrested and charged with misuse of a camera system, the State Bureau of Investigation said.

The SBI says it was contacted July 16 by the Wrightsville Beach police chief and the New Hanover County district attorney to look into the possible misuse of the department's automatic license plate reader system by an employee. Following the SBI's investigation, a New Hanover grand jury indicted Tonya Blake on one count of misuse of the ALPR system. She was arrested Wednesday morning and is scheduled to make a court appearance Oct. 12.

The SBI said its investigation is ongoing, and Blake is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
