A house fire in Lexington left five people without a home on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lexington Fire Department's first engine company arrived at the scene near the 100 block of Bud Yarborough Road and immediately deployed an attack line at about 3 p.m. Firefighters located the fire in the kitchen and began an aggressive interior attack, and the department said crews' quick, decisive response brought the fire under control.
All five residents escaped the home and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. No injuries were reported, though the house sustained extensive damage from fire, smoke and water. Members of the Lexington Fire Marshal's Office responded and are investigating the cause of the fire.
