A Mocksville man is going to spend around the next four decades in prison for killing a woman, according to court records.

Dennis Jerome Sales, 41, of Mocksville, was convicted of second-degree murder in the April 2024 death of Jade Marie Sales, 34, also of Mocksville, and sentenced to a minimum of 456 months and a maximum of 560 months, about 38 to 46 years. Jade Sales was shot multiple times at a home in Mocksville, and Dennis Sales killed her in the presence of a 1-month-old baby. An 18-year-old called 911 to report the shooting and was found by deputies hiding with the baby at the scene; other children who lived in the home were at school at the time and were placed in the care of the Department of Social Services. The deadly shooting taking place in front of the baby was listed as an aggravating factor at sentencing.

After the shooting, Dennis Sales left the state and was taken into custody in Tennessee before being extradited back to North Carolina.
