A poll conducted by Elon University shows most North Carolinians support the three constitutional amendments up for a vote this November.
The poll, conducted Aug. 21-31, found 63% of likely voters favor an amendment requiring photo ID for all forms of voting, including absentee mail-in ballots, with 25% against. A strong majority, 67%, favored the amendment to cap the maximum allowable state personal income tax at 3.5%, with the current cap at 7% and the rate currently at 3.99%, set to drop to 3.49% next year. Support for the amendment limiting increases in property taxes levied by local governments was also strong, with most respondents in favor.
The three amendments would enshrine the requirements in the state constitution, making them more difficult for future lawmakers to change.
