— A traffic stop over a fictitious registration plate turned into a drug investigation early Friday morning, resulting in two arrests and a citation.

Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped a vehicle around 2:17 a.m. September 18 near NC-14 and Silver Leaf Trail in Reidsville.

The driver was identified as Antonio Rashard Totten, 37, of Reidsville, while passengers were identified as Destani Lee Blackwell, 25, of Reidsville, and Tamara Harris Key, 35.

During the investigation, deputies reported finding suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

Totten was arrested and charged with:

Felony Possession of Fentanyl Possession of Drug Paraphernalia No bond

Blackwell was arrested and charged with:

Felony Possession of Cocaine No bond

Key was issued a citation for:

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

According to the Sheriff's Office, Totten and Blackwell were taken before a Rockingham County Magistrate and given no bond because they were already on pretrial release. Both were subsequently taken to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office Detention Facility.

So what started with deputies noticing a questionable license plate ended with three people facing drug-related charges.

Sometimes the plate is the least of your problems.
