California Gov. Gavin Newsom is traveling through the South on his Take It Back tour, ending his trip in North Carolina after four days on the road.
Newsom says he is campaigning for down-ballot Democrats in communities national Democrats too often overlook. He campaigned in six Trump-won South Carolina counties, including Lancaster on Friday, then joined Mecklenburg County Democrats for a full day of campaigning in and around Charlotte before holding a Labor Day weekend rally in Union County, an area that heavily supported Trump in 2024. Newsom is also widely considered a potential frontrunner for the 2028 Democratic presidential ticket.
The rally drew supporters as the governor pushed the message of his national tour in the battleground state.
