From six charges in March to a courtroom packed with allegations — the numbers have exploded.

When Derek Beard was arrested in March 2026, Lynchburg Police said he was facing six charges.

Fast-forward to September, and that number has grown dramatically.

According to information provided by the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Beard now faces a staggering list of charges stemming from the investigation, including:

9 felony counts of Unlawful Filming of a Minor 9 felony counts of Possession, Production, or Reproduction of Child Pornography 121 misdemeanor counts of Unlawful Filming/Image Creation of Another

That’s a total of 139 charges.

Information provided by Harrison indicates Beard had received direct indictments for 8 counts of felony unlawful filming of a minor, 7 counts of felony possession, production, or reproduction of child pornography, and 120 misdemeanor counts of unlawful filming/image creation of another.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office figures are slightly different, listing one additional count in each of the three categories.

Beard was employed at Dick’s Sporting Goods at the time of his apprehension and was arrested in mid-March in connection with the investigation, according to the Lynchburg Police Department.

What started with six charges has now turned into a massive criminal case involving more than 100 alleged misdemeanor offenses and multiple serious felony charges.

The charges are allegations, and Beard is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
