MARTINSVILLE — Good news is on the menu for families facing food insecurity in Martinsville and Henry County.
The Henry County Food Pantry is receiving a $250,000 grant from Feeding Southwest Virginia to expand its food distribution and delivery services.
And this isn't just another grant.
The three-year award is the largest grant Feeding Southwest Virginia has ever given to a single agency, providing a significant boost to the pantry's efforts to get food where it's needed most.
The funding will allow the Henry County Food Pantry to increase its capacity and reach more families throughout the community, with a particular focus on residents in rural areas who may have difficulty getting to traditional food distribution locations.
The expanded services are expected to help the pantry serve more people while making it easier for residents who lack transportation or live farther from distribution sites to access nutritious food.
For a community that stretches from Martinsville to some of the more remote corners of Henry County, that added reach could make a big difference.
The grant will be distributed over three years, giving the pantry an opportunity to build and expand its food distribution and delivery operations rather than simply providing a one-time shot of funding.
