NC A&T State University's Greatest Homecoming on Earth is expected to bring $57 million into the local economy.
This year is especially big for GHOE as it marks the 100th anniversary, with 200,000 people expected to visit the area. Dr. Cephas Naanwaab, NC A&T's associate professor of economics, said businesses in East Greensboro, where the university is located, are expected to see some of the largest crowds, and other businesses across the Triad are preparing for the influx of people. Naanwaab said the 100th anniversary could generate at least $57 million of total economic activity, with more than 86,000 people expected to visit from out of town.
"If we have more than 100,000 people coming from out of town, that could drive the impact up to $80 million," Naanwaab said. GHOE week is projected to support 245 more jobs, with the largest share in the dining industry. Downtown Greensboro restaurant Dear Dad's is adding staff and will not take reservations during the week, and the Sheraton Greensboro at Four Seasons is already sold out for the GHOE weekend.
