Nine rides, including two roller coasters at Carowinds, were closed across the U.S. after a man died at Six Flags Over Georgia.

According to NBC News, the Carowinds roller coasters Thunder Striker and Fury 325 were shut down by Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, which did not provide details on when the rides would reopen. A spokesperson said the closures were done out of an abundance of caution. The man died after being ejected from the Six Flags roller coaster Goliath on Monday afternoon. According to the Cobb County Police Department, the incident occurred around 4 p.m. and witnesses and employees indicated the rider was ejected from the ride and struck other patrons before falling beneath the attraction. Several other people were injured, though it was unclear how many.

NBC News reported the rider was a member of Wesley International Academy, an Atlanta public charter school for kindergarten through eighth grade. "We know this news is heartbreaking and difficult to process. Mr. Kariem was a valued member of our Wesley family, and his loss will be deeply felt throughout our school community," a letter from the school said. NBC News said the police department's Major Crimes Unit is actively investigating.
