— What was initially reported as a possible cardiac arrest call turned into a homicide investigation Wednesday night after officers discovered a deceased man in Reidsville.

According to the Reidsville Police Department, officers responded at approximately 11:17 p.m. on October 7, 2026, to the 400 block of Stadium Street following a report of a cardiac arrest.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male who was later determined to be the victim of a homicide. Rockingham County EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The victim was identified as Larry Lee Herbin, 72, of Reidsville.

During the investigation, authorities identified Javair Dennis, 42, as a suspect. Dennis was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder.

Dennis is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on October 14, 2026.

INVESTIGATION REMAINS ACTIVE

Reidsville police say detectives are continuing to gather evidence and information to determine the circumstances surrounding Herbin’s death. Additional details will be released as the investigation allows.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact Detective Downey-Kroh with the Reidsville Police Department at 336-347-2305.
