Martinsville reminds residents door-to-door sellers need city peddlers permits

The City of Martinsville published a government notice on April 6, 2026 reminding residents that people selling goods or services door-to-door are required to hold a city peddlers permit.

According to the notice, permit applicants must complete a criminal background check and receive Martinsville Police Department approval before the Commissioner of the Revenue issues a photo permit.

City officials also advise residents to ask to see the permit when approached at home by unfamiliar sellers. If a seller cannot present it, residents are told to ask the person to leave and then call 911.

For households across Martinsville and nearby Henry County neighborhoods, the update is a practical spring consumer-safety reminder as warmer-weather solicitation activity increases.
