Martinsville reminds residents statewide burn law remains active through April 30

The Martinsville Fire & EMS Department reminded residents that Virginia's seasonal open-air burning restrictions took effect on February 15, 2026 and remain active through April 30, 2026.

According to the city notice, open-air burning before 4:00 p.m. is restricted within 300 feet of woodland during this period, and City code also requires open-air burning to be complete by 8:00 p.m.

For Martinsville and Henry County households, the alert remains a live public-safety update during late-April dry and windy conditions, when brush and yard-fire spread risk can rise quickly.

City officials said recreational fires are still allowed when properly contained and screened, and asked residents to use caution and maintain supervision of outdoor fire activity.
