Campbell County has passed a resolution opposing the Valley Link project, a proposed 115-mile transmission line that would run through central Virginia, starting in the county.

The line would carry 765 kilovolts to Loudoun County to power more than 200 data centers there. Residents like Becky Nix worry about the impact on the environment that draws visitors to her business. "I cannot overstate the devastating visual impact that these 170 foot towers would have on our area, on the residents and on those visitors," Nix said. Resident Rick Summy said he sees no benefit of the proposed power line project to his property or to Campbell County.

Eight of the nine counties in the project's path had already passed resolutions opposing it, and Campbell County made it 9 out of 9 on Tuesday. Supervisor Matt Cline said he hopes the State Corporation Commission will take the vote to heart and deny the project. AEP's Rob Mann said the line will make the grid more reliable for homes, schools, hospitals and businesses by adding another path for power to flow. Developers AEP, Dominion Energy and FirstEnergy Transmission are still finalizing a route to send to the SCC.
