Reports of discolored tablets found inside bottles of extra strength acetaminophen sold on Amazon has led to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issuing a nationwide recall.
The FDA said in an enforcement report that Aurobindo Pharma USA Inc., based in New Jersey, issued the recall on Sept. 18, covering 112,932 bottles of 500-milligram acetaminophen caplets sold through Amazon. Extra Strength Acetaminophen sold on Amazon in 200, 500 and 1,000-count bottles is affected, and the affected lots and expiration dates are listed in the recall notice.
The recall comes after the company said it received complaints from consumers that tablets inside were discolored. It is unclear at this time what risk the discoloration may pose if the tablets are taken. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, acetaminophen is an over-the-counter medication used to temporarily relieve pain and reduce fever, and is available in tablets, capsules, liquids and powders.
