Martinsville residents can spend Saturday, Oct. 17 learning how natural indigo becomes patterned cloth during an Indigo Shibori Workshop at Piedmont Arts.
Instructor Jennifer Reis will lead the 1-4 p.m. session through dye-vat preparation and shibori techniques including binding, stitching and clamping. The workshop also covers the final preparation of the finished pieces, giving participants a hands-on look at the process from start to finish.
Each participant receives four napkins and two tea towels to dye. Additional napkins and tea towels will be available for purchase, and the event page says participants may bring their own white or cream-colored cotton or silk items for personal projects.
Tickets are $50 for members and $60 for nonmembers. Advance registration is required, with ticket sales ending at noon on Friday, Oct. 16. The workshop is at Piedmont Arts, 215 Starling Avenue, Martinsville.
