Henry County launches upgraded GIS portal with faster parcel and zoning lookup tools
Henry County has rolled out an updated geographic information system platform that local officials say is designed to speed up map access for residents, businesses, and development professionals. In the county's official notice posted on March 11, 2026, staff described the new GIS website as a replacement for an older system that had become limited in performance and tools.
For the Martinsville-Henry service area, GIS updates are not just technical housekeeping. Parcel lookup, zoning context, utility reference points, and planning overlays are used in everyday decisions involving home projects, real-estate due diligence, business siting, and permit preparation.
County engineering and mapping leadership said the newer platform expands available datasets and works better on tablets and phones, which matters when contractors, inspectors, and property owners are checking site details away from a desktop office. Faster retrieval and cleaner map controls can also reduce back-and-forth calls when residents are trying to verify boundary or land-use information.
The practical near-term question is adoption: how quickly households, builders, and commercial users move to the new interface and whether the expanded data library changes turnaround times for common planning and property questions this spring.
