Rockingham bridge work brings March U.S. 29 overnight closures near Reidsville corridor

NCDOT said in a release dated March 2, 2026 that contractors would begin nightly closures on a section of U.S. 29 in Rockingham County for demolition and bridge-replacement work, with traffic controls starting that evening.

The agency also announced a longer closure of the U.S. 29 Business bridge over U.S. 29 beginning March 9, with construction schedules extending into 2027.

For Reidsville-area commuters, this is a corridor-impact alert: overnight lane restrictions and reroutes on key north-south routes can affect school, shift-work, and freight timing across the county.

NCDOT advised drivers to plan detours and monitor DriveNC for live travel conditions while crews work through the replacement timeline.
