Rockingham reports Fishing Creek wastewater overflow with same-day containment

Rockingham County Engineering and Public Utilities reported on March 10, 2026 that about 5,000 gallons of wastewater overflowed from the Fishing Creek Lift Station at 760 Harrington Highway and discharged into Fishing Creek.

The county said the overflow was discovered at 11:26 a.m. and resolved by 12:48 p.m., with causes tied to multiple system failures including pump issues and a malfunction in automated remote notifications.

For Reidsville-corridor residents, the notice is an important utility-operations signal because it confirms rapid containment timing while also documenting infrastructure vulnerabilities that can affect local waterways.

Officials said the release was publicly reported under North Carolina statutory requirements for untreated discharges reaching state surface waters.
