Salem council sets Sept. 28 swearing-in for new member

Salem City Council is scheduled to swear in Dr. Joseph Foley at its regular meeting Monday, Sept. 28, after voting unanimously Sept. 21 to appoint him to the council.

The city said council members considered 13 candidates before selecting Foley during the closed-session portion of the Sept. 21 special meeting. The subsequent public vote on the appointment was unanimous.

Foley has lived in Salem for 36 years and has operated a chiropractic practice in the city since 1990. He also has served as Roanoke College's team chiropractor for athletics since 2017, according to the city's announcement.
