*Salem, VA - August 9, 2023 * - Emergency responders successfully rescued two women from the flooded Roanoke River on Friday.



Salem Fire & EMS were alerted to the situation on the 1700 block of Electric Road, where the women were reported struggling in the swift waters.



One woman managed to cling to a branch, facilitating her rescue by firefighters, while the second woman was found and rescued further downstream.



Both individuals were subsequently transported to a local hospital, where they are being treated for minor injuries.



This incident highlights the dangers posed by flooding in the area. Authorities urge residents to exercise caution during heavy rain events.
