In a remarkable feat, the United States' X-37B spacecraft has successfully returned to Earth following a 434-day mission shrouded in mystery. The spacecraft, which performed a groundbreaking "invisible" aerobraking maneuver, was greeted on the ground by a hazmat-clad crew, emphasizing the sensitive nature of its operations.
The X-37B executed a unique aerobraking technique that involved multiple passes through the Earth’s atmosphere, allowing it to change its orbit while minimizing fuel consumption. This innovative method rendered it temporarily undetectable to tracking systems used by other nations.
During its time in orbit, the X-37B, operated by the US Space Force, conducted various tests focused on space domain awareness technology. The X-37B is an unmanned spaceplane measuring 29 feet in length with a wingspan of 14 feet. Launched via rockets, it has demonstrated a remarkable capacity to stay in space for extended periods, having completed over six missions in the past decade.
