The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Henry County, Virginia, effective immediately through 10:00 PM tonight.

The warning includes the cities of Martinsville, Collinsville, and surrounding areas. Meteorologists report that the storm system is producing damaging winds up to 75 mph, quarter to half-dollar size hail, and heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding.

"This is a dangerous storm system that residents need to take seriously," said Emergency Management Coordinator Michael Johnson. "We're urging everyone to seek shelter immediately and stay away from windows."

The storm is moving northeast at approximately 45 mph and is expected to impact the area for the next two hours. Power outages are likely, and residents should have flashlights and battery-powered radios available.

Local authorities are advising against all non-essential travel during the warning period. The Henry County Emergency Operations Center is monitoring the situation closely.
