CRIME
The incident unfolded around 3:18 p.m. when a deputy attempted to pull over a red Ford Ranger truck driven by 51-year-old Otis Lee Hill Jr. of Martinsville. Hill disregarded the deputy's emergency lights and siren, accelerating instead and initiating a dangerous pursuit.
During the chase along Horsepasture Price Road, Hill reached speeds of up to 80 miles per hour, exhibiting reckless driving behavior by overtaking vehicles on double yellow lines, encroaching into oncoming traffic, and forcing other drivers off the road.
The pursuit crossed into North Carolina, where the deputy executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT maneuver) on Martinsville Loop. This maneuver successfully caused the Ford Ranger to lose traction and slide into a ditch, ultimately rolling onto its side.
Hill was subsequently taken into custody without further incident.
