**Record-Breaking Tourism Year in Virginia Generates $33.3 Billion in Visitor Spending**
Virginia has achieved a remarkable milestone in tourism, with visitor spending reaching an impressive $33.3 billion in the past year, as reported by the governor's office. This figure marks a nearly 10% increase compared to the previous year.*
According to "Visit Blue Ridge," the primary drivers of this spending surge are recreation and transportation. Roanoke's Amtrak station plays a pivotal role in attracting tourists to the region, enhancing its status as a key transportation hub.
"Being a great transportation hub for this side of the state, as well as having so many different recreation opportunities, has definitely contributed to that," stated Kathryn Lucas, Director of Public Relations for Visit Virginia's Blue Ridge.
Local tourism statistics are anticipated to be released in September, providing further insights into the regional economic impact of this growth.
