**ROANOKE, Va.** — Tragedy struck early Thursday morning when a man was shot and killed by Roanoke Police in response to a domestic disturbance. The incident occurred around 12:53 a.m. in the 700 block of 29th Street NW.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman outside the apartment suffering from a serious stab wound. Inside the residence, they encountered a man who was armed with a knife. Police reported that officers instructed him to drop the weapon, but he refused to comply and instead advanced towards them.
In an attempt to subdue the suspect, police deployed a taser; however, the man continued to charge at the officers. In the ensuing confrontation, he was shot and later succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incident. The involved officers have been placed on administrative leave while the Virginia State Police conduct an investigation into the shooting.
