*ROCKY MOUNT, Va. - Franklin County and the Town of Rocky Mount reached "historic agreements" during a meeting on Tuesday night, with significant implications for both communities.*
The agreement includes a strategic boundary line adjustment, allowing Rocky Mount to expand its town limits on all four sides into Franklin County. This extension will incorporate over $150 million worth of land into the town, enhancing its growth potential.
In a move to support residents in the newly adjusted areas, the town will nearly double its wastewater capacity, which is expected to improve services, including the addition of trash pickup. Mayor Holland Perdue emphasized that most residents in the affected area already receive water services, making this expansion beneficial for local households.
As part of the agreement, Franklin County will make a one-time payment of $200,000 to Rocky Mount. This financial support aims to increase wastewater capacity to 700,000 gallons per day at Summer View Park, providing opportunities to attract new businesses to the region.
Further strengthening their partnership, Franklin County will provide $800,000 in funding to support the Rocky Mount Volunteer Fire Department. This contribution will cover over half of the costs associated with replacing equipment, including fire trucks over 25 years old, after 2031.
Mayor Perdue expressed pride in the collaborative effort, stating, "This was a global agreement that both sides came to the table, and it was voted unanimously by both sides. So, I think that speaks volumes to where we are."
The Town of Rocky Mount will conduct public advertising regarding the boundary line adjustment and hold a public hearing before making a final vote on the agreement. Updates on the hearing date will be provided as they become available.

**HENRY COUNTY, Va.** – A high-speed pursuit on Saturday, September 21, resulted in the arrest of two men and left one deputy injured, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 2:11 p.m., a deputy recognized a white Buick linked to a recent larceny at a local business. When the deputy ran the vehicle's tag, he discovered discrepancies and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver, later identified as 35-year-old Carlton Haizlip of Eden, NC, fled, driving recklessly down Greensboro Road.
The chase escalated as Haizlip turned onto Main Street and then onto Highway 87 towards North Carolina. During the pursuit, a deputy executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (P.I.T. maneuver), causing Haizlip's vehicle to slide into an embankment. However, this maneuver resulted in the deputy's leg being pinned between the suspect's vehicle and the patrol car.
Haizlip fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended in Myrtle Beach, SC, where he awaits extradition back to Henry County. He faces several charges, including felony eluding police and assault on law enforcement. The stolen vehicle, a 2006 Saturn, was also recovered in Myrtle Beach.
Two other individuals were found in the suspect vehicle. Ronald Haizlip, also linked to the pursuit, had an outstanding warrant for eluding police and was arrested. The female passenger was released without charges.
The injured deputy was treated for minor injuries at SOVA Health of Martinsville and is expected to make a full recovery.
The incident remains under investigation. Authorities encourage anyone with information to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at (276) 638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 63-CRIME (632-7463). Rewards of up to $2,500 are available for information related to criminal activity.
