*CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. — Former Virginia Delegate Matt Fariss is currently in custody after a judge ruled he violated the conditions of his bond. Fariss is facing serious charges related to drug possession and firearm offenses.
The bond revocation occurred on Monday after officials reported that Fariss tested positive for methamphetamine during his mandated drug screenings. This follows his initial arrest in March, when Campbell County Sheriff's deputies discovered meth in his possession and a firearm in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
Despite being released on bond, Fariss had previously tested positive for meth, with the judge warning him that any further violations would result in bond revocation. Emotion ran high in the courtroom during the hearing, with many of Fariss's family members present, some visibly distressed.
According to court documents, Fariss tested positive for meth on October 11. Although he denied the use of drugs, subsequent lab results confirmed the presence of methamphetamines and amphetamines in his system on October 22.
Fariss voluntarily surrendered to authorities on October 25 and is currently being held at the Amherst County Blue Ridge Regional Jail. His trial is scheduled for November 13.
