On September 3, 2020, the city and Caesars Entertainment signed a deal to build a resort casino on the former Dan River mills site.

Danville City Council had unanimously approved Caesars Entertainment's $400 million plan in August 2020, and the development agreement was signed September 3. Voters approved the casino referendum that November, 13,022 to 5,941.
