Danville voters overwhelmingly approved a casino in a November 2020 referendum, setting up Caesars Virginia on the former Dan River mill site.
Danville was one of five Virginia cities approved for a casino resort, according to Cardinal News. Discover Danville says city voters approved Caesars Virginia by a wide margin in a November 2020 referendum. A temporary casino opened in May 2023, and the permanent resort opened on December 17, 2024, at the site of the former Dan River Inc. mill in Schoolfield.
