Stuart Downtown Historic District listed on the National Register

Stuart
Stuart's railroad-era downtown, with its knitting mill, cannery and Art Deco theater, was listed on the National Register on May 27, 2021.
The 8.24-acre district south of the uptown area holds commercial and industrial buildings from the late 1800s to the 1960s, including two banks, a theater, a cannery and a knitting mill. It grew up around the Danville & Western Railway, which arrived in 1884, though the tracks, turntable and depot no longer exist. Virginia listed the district on March 18, 2021, and the National Register listing followed on May 27, 2021.
