Danville Amtrak service to pause for nine days in October

Amtrak passenger rail service in Danville is scheduled to pause for nine days, from Oct. 17 through Oct. 25, while infrastructure work is completed near Union Station in Washington, D.C.

The city says normal service is expected to resume Oct. 26. The work will replace aging switches and other track components in the First Street Tunnel, where trains currently operate under a 10-mph speed restriction.

Danville is served by Amtrak's Crescent route between New York and New Orleans. During the construction period, the route will operate as separate New York-to-Washington and Atlanta-to-New Orleans segments, leaving Danville outside the operating segments.

Travelers with October plans should check Amtrak directly before leaving for the station because schedules and restoration timing can change.
