Ten new Danville Police Department officers are moving into field training after completing the department's BRIDGE Program.
The city says the officers graduated Friday, July 10, during a ceremony at 1 Community Way. BRIDGE stands for Building Relationships, Inspiring Dialogue, Growing Engagement, and the four-week program introduces new officers to Danville's history, neighborhoods, community leaders, stakeholders, businesses and service needs before they begin field training.
As part of the program, the class completed a community service project at the Temporary Relief & Counseling Center on Shelton Street. The department said officers remodeled part of the center, distributed food to community members and collected donations for TRCC.
- What to know: The program sits between academy graduation and full field training, with a focus on community connections as well as police operations.
- Who is affected: Neighborhood residents, businesses, community groups, nonprofit partners and people who interact with new officers during the field-training period.
- Why it matters: Community-immersion programs can give new officers local context before they begin regular patrol work and daily calls for service.
Residents can follow Danville Police channels for future community engagement walks, safety notices and department recruiting information.
