South Union Street work zone changes downtown Danville traffic

Downtown Danville drivers should expect a new traffic pattern around South Union Street as crews set up a work zone near the Masonic Temple building.

The City of Danville says South Union Street at the Main Street intersection is scheduled to close at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2026, so crews can begin setting up the work area. Barricades and traffic-control devices are expected to be installed Wednesday morning, after which South Union Street will reopen with a modified pattern.

For the duration of the project, the parking lane on the west side of South Union Street across from the Masonic Temple building will be used as a travel lane. The city says a limited number of spaces near The Bee Hotel will remain available.

  • What to know: English Construction is scheduled to begin work on the Masonic Temple project this week.
  • Who is affected: Downtown drivers, hotel visitors, River District businesses, pedestrians and anyone using the Main Street/South Union Street area.
  • Driver action: Slow down, follow posted traffic devices and plan for minor delays while the new pattern is settling in.

Residents should use the city's notice and posted signs for the latest routing details before traveling through the work zone.
