Danville sets Aug. 14 filing deadline for special City Council election

Danville residents considering a run in the city's special City Council election have less than two weeks to complete their filing.

The city's candidate-information page lists a deadline of 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, for the special-election term that expires Dec. 31, 2028. Candidate packets are available at the General Registrar's Office, 530 Main St., first floor, Suite 100, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The city says candidates need at least 125 signatures from registered Danville voters to qualify for the ballot and recommends submitting at least 175. Required forms and campaign-finance guidance are available through the Virginia Department of Elections.

Prospective candidates should confirm every filing requirement with the registrar before the deadline; incomplete petitions or late forms can affect ballot access.
