Greensboro Downtown Greenway public-art speaker series closes Oct. 22

GREENSBORO — The Downtown Greenway’s 2026 Speaker Series: Public Art is scheduled to close Thursday with a free conversation at the Weatherspoon Art Museum.

The final session is set for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, at the museum, 500 Tate St. The City of Greensboro lists the program as an all-are-welcome event.

The city says artist Thomas Sayre will appear in conversation with Dr. Emily Stamey, the Weatherspoon’s curator of academic programming and head of exhibitions. The discussion will address the value of public art and how it can build community.

Sayre designed the Downtown Greenway work Cairn’s Course on the trail’s Western Branch, according to the city listing. The event page identifies this as the fourth and final session in the 2026 series and lists the program as free.
