— A 72-year-old Kentucky man is facing multiple serious charges after an officer-involved shooting in Wise County early Sunday morning. Apparently, this was one midnight call that went well beyond a routine police response.
According to Virginia State Police, Stuart L. Reynolds, of Thornton, Kentucky, faces three counts of attempted aggravated murder of a law enforcement officer and one count of malicious wounding.
Authorities say Reynolds called Wise County dispatch at approximately 12:22 a.m., claiming he had stabbed someone in Jenkins, Kentucky, and provided his location. A Wise County Sheriff’s Office deputy and two Town of Wise police officers responded — but investigators say the officers were met with gunfire and returned fire.
Police say Reynolds later raised his hands and surrendered without being injured. A Wise County deputy suffered a minor injury from shattered glass and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
