A large commercial building and more than a dozen vehicles were damaged or destroyed in an overnight fire along West Lynchburg-Salem Turnpike in Bedford County.

According to the Bedford Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 2 a.m. to the 6700 block of West Lynchburg-Salem Turnpike for a reported structure fire.

Wagon 1 arrived to find a large, single-story commercial building heavily involved in flames, with numerous vehicles also on fire.

Firefighters immediately initiated an attack, but due to the intensity of the blaze, operations became defensive in nature. Ladder 1 assisted with firefighting efforts while Tanker 1 helped establish a water supply.

Companies from Montvale (Company 9) and Shady Grove (Company 19) also responded, along with Bedford crews.

Firefighters remained on scene for approximately three hours before being released by command.

The fire resulted in the total loss of the business, with approximately 12 to 14 vehicles also suffering damage.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The Bedford Fire Department thanked all personnel who responded and assisted with the overnight operation.
