A motorcyclist died in a crash with another vehicle in Pittsylvania County Wednesday evening, Virginia State Police announced. Troopers were dispatched to Route 58 and Grays Park Road at 10:18 p.m. Oct. 21.

Troopers said the driver of a Honda Ridgeline was traveling west on Route 58 and used the crossover to go eastbound on the highway. Police say Jonathan Thomas Phelps, 39, of Danville, was speeding eastbound on a Honda CBR motorcycle and rear-ended the Ridgeline. Phelps, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene, according to police.

The driver of the Ridgeline was not injured, and no charges are pending, State Police said. The crash remains under investigation.
