— A riding lawnmower is being blamed for a fire that caused an estimated $300,000 in damage and displaced a family of six from their Roanoke County home Monday evening.
The fire was reported shortly after 6:45 p.m. in the 5300 block of Doe Run Road.
Firefighters arrived and managed to knock down the blaze in approximately 10 minutes, but not before the home sustained extensive damage.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The Roanoke County Fire Marshal's Office investigated the cause and determined that the fire originated with a riding lawnmower on the home's back porch.
Exactly how the lawnmower ignited was not specified in the initial information released.
The damage is estimated at approximately $300,000.
Six people who lived in the home have now been displaced as a result of the fire.
So while firefighters made remarkably quick work of the flames, ten minutes was more than enough time to turn a lawnmower on the back porch into a very expensive Monday evening.
