— An overnight search involving law enforcement, fire and rescue personnel, and search-and-rescue teams has ended on a positive note: 81-year-old Alden Wilcox has been safely located.

Officials announced the good news at 9:24 a.m., thanking everyone who shared the missing-person alert and the agencies that worked through the night and into the morning to find him.

The search began Wednesday evening, October 7, after Wilcox was reported missing from the Glade Hill/Union Hall area. Authorities said he had last been seen leaving his residence on foot around 4 p.m.

Wilcox had been diagnosed with dementia, raising concerns for his safety as crews searched the area around Standiford Road and The Coves Amphitheater.

The search brought an increased presence of law enforcement officers, fire and emergency personnel, and search-and-rescue teams to the area.

After hours of searching, the outcome was what everyone hoped for: Wilcox was found safely.

Authorities expressed appreciation to the community for sharing the alert and to the emergency responders who worked together to bring the search to a successful conclusion.
