As race fans arrive for NASCAR weekend, Henry County officials announced plans for a new 99-room Home2 Suites by Hilton hotel near Martinsville Speedway in Collinsville. Officials said the project addresses a longstanding need for additional quality lodging in Martinsville and Henry County, where visitors often seek rooms in neighboring communities because of limited availability and uneven quality.
According to the county, there is significant unmet lodging demand locally: approximately 62 percent of lodging demand is leaking to surrounding markets, meaning visitors who could stay locally are booking elsewhere. That limited supply has been a challenge for event organizers trying to attract larger events and house visiting teams, families and spectators. The location near the speedway and the Monogram Foods Smith River Sports Complex is expected to keep more overnight stays and visitor spending in the community.
Board of Supervisors Chairman Jim Adams called it an important investment in the county's ability to attract visitors, support local businesses and strengthen the economy, and County Administrator Dale Wagoner said the data shows the county is losing substantial lodging demand to surrounding communities. Chetan Uka, Jay Shah and Neil Amin of Shamin Hotels are the developers, and Uka said the Hilton extended-stay brand and the location should make the hotel a valuable addition. Construction is expected to begin by the end of the year, with guests welcomed by spring 2028.
